Toy Fair 2015: Your Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Report

Our UK Toy Fair coverage is rolling out and Nuremberg Toy Fair coverage is in deck, and as we inch closer to New York International Toy Fair 2015, we thought we'd take a moment to acknowledge a little known property called..laughably..Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This mock-send up of modern comic books is gaining fans across the globe with excellent writing and a gritty art style standing in contract to the silly premise. Hey...maybe one day there will be a cartoon series! ...I keed of course. TMNT is continuing its domination of your children's lives...and a good deal of the adults running past them to hunt the toy isles daily for that damn elusive April O'Neil figure. One look at those isles at Christmas time would tell you all you need to know about the level of popularity here. EMPTY PEGS. A sea of them. The Playmates crew aren't wasting any time celebrating as they charge into 2015 with a full mutations line with two series of action figures and a character lineup that would impress any fan..of anything! Let's see what's going down in 2015...

As we hit stores for our Toy Spotting updates, we've spotted the new TMNT Mutations lines featuring a Mix and Match body parts theme with all four Turtles, Splinter, Shredder, Metalhead, Tiger Claw and Slash. We also found a couple of transforming turtles, taking our pals from innocent turtles to crime fighting, pizza loving bi-peds in..well..the length of time it takes for you to figure out how the toy works. SCIENCE!!!

According to a new catalog found at UK Toy Fair, this is your action figure lineup for the next few months. Info and images from Emilie Noetzel

We've X'd out the figures you'll find in the wild right now. Among those obvious figures we've been seeing for months now like Casey Jones, Robotic Foot Soldier, Bebop and Rocksteady (Rahzar is said to be out there but I've yet to spot him)....and those killer LARPing Turtles..we've got all four Turtles in their Mystic Training Gear (which we are told are just starting to trickle into stores), Stockman Fly and Serpent Karai.

Karai Serpent
This tough and mysterious female ninja has ties to both Shredder and Splinter. But when Shredder devises a snake mutagen—hoping to mutate the Turtles into rat-eating reptiles that will destroy Splinter—Karai's life takes a drastic turn. Shredder accidentally knocks her into the Ooze and she mutates into a swift, three-headed serpent. Karai goes on a rampage, stopping herself just before killing Splinter. Her impressive control allows her to mutate back and forth between snake and human form. Figure comes with removable serpent head.

Baxter Fly
During a confrontation with Shredder, Baxter Stockman is exposed to mutagen ooze next to an old pizza box buzzing with flies. The result is Baxter Fly, a human-insect mutant that has super hearing, spits up acid, and eats garbage.

Mystic Donatello
BE IMMOVABLE – LIKE A MOUNTAIN!
After retreating to the woods with the other Turtles, Don starts a new training regime. He weighs himself down with stones to help his body and mind become “immovable like a mountain” while preparing to take back the City with his brothers. Figure comes with a hammer, an ono (stone axe), and a bo staff.

Mystic Michelangelo
BE STILL – LIKE THE FOREST!
After being defeated by Shredder and the Kraang, Michelangelo learns to embrace stillness and focus his mind. Discarding distractions, he knows it’s time to buckle down and prepare for battle. He even trains in camouflage to blend into the forest. Figure includes nunchuks and twin katanas.

Mystic Raphael
RAID THE ENEMY – LIKE FIRE!
After their defeat and a visitation by Splinter, Raph carries a flame thrower and wears fire gear while learning to harness his anger. His focus allows his temper to work for him and not distract him as he prepares for the next battle. Figure includes twin sais, tegaki (wall climbing claws), and a flame thrower.

Mystic Leonardo
BE QUICK AND LIGHT – LIKE THE WIND!
Defeated by Shredder and the Kraang, Leonardo and his brothers retreat to the woods. After seeing a vision of Splinter, Leo trains harder than ever, wearing a feather-like cloak to become "quick and light like the wind.” Having mastered the bow and arrow, Leo is now ready for the next battle against his enemies. Figure comes with a bow and arrow and twin katanas.

I'll also make a note that I've never once seen Dojo Splinter in stores, so hopefully we'll see new shipments with him, Casey Jones, April and more. Playmates adds to this lineup with promises of the following...

Mikey Turflytle
When Mikey agrees to dress up in a giant fly costume to lure Kirby Bat, he starts out feeling bugged. But with an awesome name like Turflytle, Mikey quickly embraces his superhero outfit—complete with wings on his shell, insect legs beneath his arms, antennae, and fly-like goggles on his eyes.

Head Droppin’ Turtles
These Turtles have evil stopped in its tracks—but if they need to dodge a close call, they can drop down into their shells and pop up again when the time is right! Press on the turtle's head to drop it down, then squeeze his legs to pop it back up.

Further digging into the UK TMNT catalog didn't reveal much more than any super fan might already know, but we did find some fun items...

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mini Ninjas Blind Bagged Figures

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Deluxe Ninja Action Turtles

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Talking Tech Figures Wave 2

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Sling Shouts Talking Plush and Stretch N Shout Figures

Previously revealed at San Diego Comic-Con 2014 were Classics Shredder and Krang in his Robot Body. Hopefully those will be easier to find than Bebop and Rocksteady...which I am still living without. Just...barely living...

We have only just begun!! Keep it locked in to Idle Hands for tons of Toy Fair 2015 coverage from around the world!
