A New LEGO Movie Trailer!

The LEGO Movie follows Emmet, an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average LEGO minifigure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. Emmet (Chris Pratt; Parks and Recreation, Guardians of the Galaxy) is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which he is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared."

Joining Chris Pratt in the voice cast for The LEGO Movie are Will Ferrell (The Campaign, Anchorman: The Legend Continues), Morgan Freeman (The Dark Knight Rises, Oblivion), Liam Neeson (Battleship, Taken 2), Will Arnett (Arrested Development, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), Elizabeth Banks (30 Rock, The Hunger Games), Nick Offerman (21 Jump Street, Parks and Recreation), Charlie Day (Monsters University, Pacific Rim) and Alison Brie (Community, Mad Men). Hit the jump for the new trailer!

Image Comics Velvet #1 Reviewed

 By Andrew O’Brien

Some say the spy thriller is a thing of the past, or at least it’s slowly dying as time goes on. Some of that is right. The “spy” has become somewhat irrelevant after the Cold War because the world’s standard on “bad guys” has lost a nation behind them, so there’s no established structure to infiltrate and spy on. Also, they are not as well funded as the spies of the Cold War era and can’t afford fancy gadgets and gizmos. For the last 20 years, the spy thriller genre has done two things to prevent its own demise. They’ve either kept their stories contained in the 40+ years where their genre thrived or (for the ones that couldn’t do that) have created fictional groups with more established structures for their spies to infiltrate. (Or just turned Russia into North Korea.) These methods have worked, but only to a point since the further we get away from the Cold War the less Russian villains even matter. They just don’t have the staying power of the dreaded Nazi, but soon the Nazi’s standard as the overall bad guy will probably fade too. The second method just doesn’t hold the same real-world gravitas since there really is no Hydra or AIM, so the threat is not as large as the Soviets. So, after saying all that, does Ed Brubaker and Steve Epting’s Velvet embrace the first or second method to try and bring back the spy thriller? And does it work?

Get Techy with Emi Debos: Poser 2014 Reviewed

And now for something completely nerdy. We welcome Emi Debos to the fold as she tackles the occasional high tech gadget, killer software pack or techy event.

Poser 2014 is the latest software release of the infamous 3D modeling and animation program most elusive to freelance designers. Everyone in animation has revered Poser as one of the top animation programs for its great ability to create the best computer generated looking people, and yet barely any of us have the finances to use it (I did say “freelance”, right?). Now that I’ve used the program, I can see why. Its layout is similar to most other open source animation platforms with a customizable main screen, but with tools that are different than most programs I am familiar with. Given its ability to manipulate the Z-Axis, they create more options for altering different spaces. As opposed to memorizing a lot of key shortcuts (and there are a lot), they have it as part of their tools on the left hand side. They’ve put a lot of attention and care into creating very recognizable shapes for each tool, making it incredibly easy to pick up.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Takes Requests

Sylvester Stallone may have caught flack for charging over 300 dollars an autograph at New York Comic Con 2013 (I'm sure he is crying into his hundreds as we speak), but that doesn't mean all iconic action stars are ready to follow suit. I'm hoping the future contains a lot more moments like these. Arnold Schwarzenegger took to Reddit to take requests for people's favorite movie lines, which he very seriously recreated and posted on YouTube. I'm not sure how many he's going to do as the bit isn't obviously marked over on Reddit, but the "If It Bleeds" clip is the first to hit...although it isn't the first quote Arnold has thrown at the interweb. I think I'm starting to love this guy again. We've included several more ArnoldTV bits...because it's Friday...and no one wants to really get work done today anyways.

Cast of Last Vegas Take On Pop Song Lyrics

If I had a nickel for every time I've heard "What Does The Fox Say" and wished Morgan Freeman would read the lyrics to me before bed...well...I'd have a shit load of nickels. I'm just going to leave this right here...

Cast of Big Bang Theory Sings in Support of Music Cares

Ba-sing-a! The Big Bang Theory is getting musical with the release on iTunes of an original song performed by the cast. In the Thursday, October 24, episode “The Romance Resonance,” the plans Howard Wolowitz (Simon Helberg) has to celebrate the anniversary of his first date with his microbiologist wife, Bernadette Rostenkowski-Wolowitz (Melissa Rauch), are thwarted when a lab incident leaves her temporarily quarantined. In a romantic gesture, Howard performs the original song “If I Didn’t Have You (Bernadette’s Song)” outside her hospital room, with his friends Leonard (Johnny Galecki), Sheldon (Jim Parsons), Penny (Kaley Cuoco), Raj (Kunal Nayyar) and Amy (Mayim Bialik) singing backup.

Son of Monsterpalooza Show Report

Annnnd we're back. Those who have been reading Idle Hands for a bit know that October has become a horrific month for us, and not just for the sake of using horror puns at Halloween. With New York Comic Con and our participation at Rock and Shock alongside the usual spooky festivities, I find myself beat to hell, void of working vocal chords and with a strange bruise under my right eye...but I swear there were no drunken battles this weekend....at least none I took part in. At any rate, the show must go on and Emilie Noetzel returns with a look at the convention series quickly becoming a movie FX fan's dream come true.

On Saturday October 12th, 2013, my trusted friend and co-photographer Nicole Marrokal and I made the drive to Burbank for 2 days of monster fun at Son of Monsterpalooza.  Having a 6 hours class (yes a single class for 6 hours) on the Friday, we could not come up from San Diego for all 3 days of the show.  Google mapping lead us to discover the way to Malibu and how much we are in need of a beach vacation, but that would have to wait.  After some recalculating, we made it to Burbank with a short detour and delay to join the rest of freaks and geeks at the Burbank Marriott.

Disney & Star Wars Into 2015

Jedi News gets the scoop on Disney's lineup of multi media projects for Star Wars for the next two years, as found in a brochure handed out at the European Brand Licensing Show. Alongside the hotly anticipated, anxiety making, geek madening Star Wars Episode VII, you'll find some new LEGO video game bits, mentions of the new Rebels animated series premiere and the Phineas and Ferb Star Wars special...and my favorite...DARTH VADER THEMED TV SPECIALS!!! I hope they turn Vader into a Martha Stewart-like character who entertains Jedi younglings with scientific experiments aided by the force and..you know..a holiday crafting special. He's a natural.

HELL NO...The Sensible Horror Film

For those of you who get angry at the characters who go skinny dipping in the supposedly cursed lake where 25 campers were beheaded...who scream at the screen when folks think it's a good idea to run off in opposite directions from the single supernatural slasher...who beat their head against the closest wooden surface when the overly brainy girl starts reading Latin passages out of a book with eyes, teeth and fresh, dripping blood...FROM A BOOK....this one's for you.

Rock and Shock's 10th Anniversary This Weekend

Massachusetts prepares for the 10th anniversary of the Rock and Shock Horror and Music convention series this weekend (October 18th-20th) with a lineup of sinister guests, musical acts and events that can not be missed!

This year’s celebrity guests include Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger of Nightmare on Elm Street), Robert Patrick (Terminator 2, X-Files), Gunnar Hansen (Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Michael Rooker, Scott Wilson, Lew Temple and IronE Singleton (of The Walking Dead), cast and crew from Sharknado, the cast of Holliston and many more!

75 Years of Superman in 2 Minutes ..Animated!

From the creative minds of Zack Snyder (Man of Steel) and Bruce Timm (Superman: The Animated Series) and produced by Warner Bros. Animation, this short follows Superman through the years, from his first appearance on the cover of Action Comics #1 to Henry Cavill in this year's Man of Steel...all in two minutes! Believe it or not, it's all in there...old school animated Supes, the Super Pets, a giant rampaging Jimmy Olsen, silly looking classic Brainiac, an animated classic Christopher Reeves Superman, a quick nod to the Timm animated series and a quicker toe to toe with Doomsday, Superman's black interpretive dance costume complete with 90's hair, splitting into Superman Blue and Red and on into the new 52 where his lil red shorts disappear. There's so much to love here, I can see die hard fans watching this video over and over. Enjoy!!

NYCC 2013: Saturday's Star Wars Rebels Panel & More in Andrew's Day 2 Diary

NYCC ’13 Floor Journal Part 2
By Andrew O’Brien
October 12th- No sleep issues today. Just got up and got out, ready to hit the Con on its busiest day. Saturday is a great day for NYCC, but I warn you.. don’t make it your only day. Saturday is usually the day with the most essential panels and the dealers seem to have the most swag, but it comes with a price. No.. not one of money, but one of room. On Friday and Sunday one could travel from one end of the show floor to the other in... I’d say about 20 minutes if you don’t mind bumping into a couple people and squeezing through some tight spaces. On Saturday, though, it could take you 45 minutes to an hour to make it across the floor because you don’t actually do much walking. It's more like shuffling. If you don’t mind large crowds and tight spaces by all means just go Saturday; the best cosplayers usually come out  (and boy did Idle Hands get some great pictures of them), and did I mention the panels? The comics world came in full force with panels ranging from Inhumanity to Vertigo to the New 52, but only one panel shined as the most essential panel for me this year.

NYCC 2013: Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel & Faith Return

Announced today at New York Comic Con, Dark Horse is bringing the Whedonverse into it’s tenth season with the help of fan favorite authors, Christos Gage and Victor Gischler.

“In Buffy, Season 10 is going to be about bringing friendships back together, while in Angel and Faith, relationships are shattered. Magic is starting to come back into the world, but in some surprising ways, like that vampire we saw standing in the sunlight at the end of Season 9,” says Editor in Chief Scott Allie.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 10 is slated for 30 issues, written by Christos Gage and illustrated by Rebekah Issacs, with covers by long time series artist, Steve Morris.

“The Buffyverse community has been wonderfully welcoming to Rebekah and me. It's a tremendous honor for Joss and Dark Horse to trust us with their flagship book, and we are going to do all we can to be worthy of that trust. It's a new season, with new rules...but hopefully the same blend of love, action, horror, humor and creativity that's made Buffy and her Scoobies part of all our families. We hope you'll join us for the ride,” states Christos Gage.

NYCC 2013: Friday's Prime Marvel Comic Panels & More in Andrew's Day 1 Diary

NYCC ‘13 Floor Journal Part 1
By Andrew O’Brien

Friday October 11th- I awoke for my first day of New York Comic Con after only three hours of sleep, alert and ready for…well.. actually grumpy and wanting to go back to bed. But the clock was ticking and I had to make that (for no good reason) 11 o’clock in the morning Amazing X-Men panel. By the time I arrived in Penn Station, nerds had fully infested the city like a zombie plague, and yes, there were even some zombies. So I did what I always do (and if it’s your first time this is a helpful hint), I followed the nerds to the Javitz Center. It’s a short walk and if the weather is bearable, there’s no reason to pay for a cab or wait for the shuttle. I arrived at the Javitz Center, spent probably around 10 minutes looking for the panel room (since they like to shuffle the landscape around randomly) and was ready to..wait in line for like ...45 minutes. But then it was panel time.

NYCC 2013: Dark Horse Expands Game of Thrones

When we hit New York Comic Con..or any other con, we put together an awesome team and hit it hard...and then at night...we find an awesome party and hit it hard...so please excuse the lack of hourly updates. WE CRAVE FUN. If you're a regular, you know this is not the place for up to the minute coverage, but I think we deliver the goods. We did manage to work a fan favorite property into our shoots yesterday and thought we might throw all that eye candy at you this morning. It seems Dark Horse knows your love for Game of Thrones has not diminished and is sending out more excellent collectibles for your medieval-y shelf space into 2014.

Telekinetic Girl VS NY Coffee Shop

With one week til the opening of the Carrie remake, super pranksters Thinkmodo took to the streets of New York City...and rigged a coffee shop for destruction. MIND EXPLODEY DESTRUCTION!! I don't know about you but if this had happened in Brooklyn when I was growing up, someone would have decked the poor girl. We all knew about mutants...and you gotta knock those suckers out fast. I'll also add, if friends of mine had rigged this, the dude's head would have went kaplooey and those coffee shop patrons would be scarred for life right now. Hit play and prepare to laugh your ass off. Suffice to say, if you are supposed to be working, you'll have to do this all ninja like...or just call everyone over and disrupt business for 5 minutes. Your call.

Carrie opens October 18th!
